It’s Hockey Season?

Unfortunately, I missed the Pens season opener in Stockholm because of well… college football but suffice it to say the Pens split the short series with the Sens. I'm bringing this up because we have a new Pittsburgh-based blog that you should check out called (appropriately for Pirates fans) This is Gettting Old. I was asked to add a link and I have a strict police of always checking a blog out before adding it to my blogroll (hey you have to have some standards, I mean I'm not a whore, ok I am but still…) but I followed the link and was greeted with this:

I need no further investigation consider yourself linked. Oh there are more pictures of Alyssa Milano and this is the least sexy of them but she's wearing my favorite hockey team's shirt so it's damn sexy to me. Head on over if you're a Pittsburgh fan (he's also a Penn State fan) and check it out or head on over and trash talk if you're a Philly fan, whatever just head over and check out hot pictures of Alyssa Milano.

TNL welcomes We Want the Lion

It's that time of year again when new blogs arise like expectations for our beloved Nittany Lions. Got an e-mail from one of the "staff" (as if we bloggers actually have "staff" or an office… pretty much we have a computer and beer… lots of beer) of the site, checked it out for myself and I highly recommend them. Head on over and check them out for yoself:

They're painstakingly doing previews of every Penn State opponent before the season starts, to which I say Bully chaps, I'm glad someone is, I'm too lazy…. and drunk.

TNL: now with 10% more technology

I've finally had the time to catch up here at TNL and have added some things. I've updated my Big Ten Bloggers links to include all the members of our prestigious Big Ten Bloggers group – it's becoming the hip thing to be part of our merry little band and we're growing faster than Brittany Spears' police record. My apologies to all the great blogs of these here intertubes that have been part of our group for a long time and until now have had no recognition from TNL. Hopefully everything is 100% accurate now.

Also I've added one of them thar internet gizmos: the Schmap widget on the sidebar. It's an interactive schedule/map of the Penn State basketball schedule which has stats and various eye-pleasing graphics. Please, by all means give it a try and tell me what you think; the developers would like any feedback that I and my users can give. If you like it let me know, if you hate it let me know what could be better about it. Of course in keeping with our long-standing tradition of add-free blogging, TNL has received no monetary compensation for using the Schmap, it's there to make your blogging experience better. Don't get me wrong, we're whores here at TNL but we do it to cuddle not for the money.

Never too early to start hating the Irish

I got an email last night from one of the guys starting a new blog dedicated to the rivalry between Penn State and Notre Dame. Simply put the blog's name is Penn State vs Notre Dame. Simply and yet such a novel idea, head on over and check them out. I'll let them describe the content because they do a better job than I could.

This blog is dedicated to the rivalry between Penn State and Notre Dame. Sure, it may not be the Iron Bowl, the Red River Shootout, or a Cocktail Party, but the intensity of the fans of these two universities is as great as any.

I've never considered Notre Dame a "rival" in the truest sense of the word but now that I think of it, they really are. Pennsylvania is, for the most part, made up of two fan bases: Penn State and Notre Dame. Growing up I had some serious trash talking battles with Irish fans in high school but it was more of a friendly feud than an Ohio State-Michigan style hatred. The Notre Dame – Penn State fan relationship is unique in the sense that both fan bases have a large contingent that think their team is a lot more relevant in the national scope of college football then they really are – it's codependent delusionalism.

So head on over start the trash talking and represent PSU well. I'll get you fired up by simply telling you that one of the contributors name is Irish41Lions17 – how's that for salt in the wound? Welcome guys and good luck.

Blogging and Politics – oil meets water

I've often shied away from political discourse in this blog because discussing politics on the internet is like discussing it in a bar: people are generally highly opinionated and the only conclusions one can draw from such "discussions" is that people can generally be dicks. Now I know that there are (probably) millions of blogs out their dedicated to political affiliations, rants and what have you, and I say good for them – have at it, but I don't even want to go there. In that light I wanted to give a thumbs up and a hearty good luck to Mike from Cool Hand's Crib because he is ending the sports-only Crib and moving into a more general format at MUSINGS OF A LITTERED MIND. He's just getting things going but stop by and give him a visit. I've adjusted my links accordingly.

Good News in Sports

Jim Johnson from a new blog called Good News In College Sports e-mailed me the other day to introduce his work and it is definitely a change of pace type blog. It’s dedicated to feel good stories that get buried in the back pages because most “good” stories aren’t good sellers.

This blog is dedicated to telling the good stories in college sports, big time and small time alike. Here you will find tales of faith, persevereance, and overcoming adversity by athletes, coaches, administrators, and anyone connected with college sports.
Head on over and give him a look, it’s definitely a breath of fresh air. Welcome to the great Blogosphere, oh CourtMaster.
