Blogpoll: There Are No Absolutes

It's November, which means all the rules are thrown out the window. Texas marching through the Big 12 almost happened (or already did if you listened to the media coming into the weekend), now Texas Tech gets their chance at murderer's row, Alabama walks into the Saban welcome home party at LSU, and do you already have Penn State penciled in for an undefeated season? Wait until all the games are played, they travel to Iowa this week, and don't get riled up about the BCS rankings until it actually matters. Corrections, suggestions and objections are always welcome.

Games Watched: Houston/Marshall, South Florida/Cincinnati, Iowa/Illinois, Northwestern/Minnesota, Michigan/Purdue, Pittsburgh/Notre Dame, Florida/Georgia, Florida State/Georgia Tech, Wisconsin/Michigan State, Tennessee/South Carolina, Texas/Texas Tech, Nebraska/Oklahoma and East Carolina/UCF.

Change of format here for this week replacing Moving Up/Moving Down. The question was asked, "Why do I have Penn State ranked so low?" The short answer is lazy voting, I had Texas Tech and Alabama ranked higher than Penn State for pretty much the entire year. Who should be number 1? Stacking Texas Tech, Alabama, and Penn State next to each other at this point, the one with the strongest case might be Penn State. That can't be right, can it? Texas Tech has a very high quality win over Texas and then what? Maybe a decent win over Kansas and then what? Not a goddamn thing, subject to change in the next few weeks, demerits for squeaking out a win against an awful Nebraska team in OT. Alabama has a pretty good quality win over Georgia and then what? Maybe a decent win over Ole Miss and then what? Not a goddamn thing unless they beat Florida in the SEC championship and don't try to sell me LSU that got 50 dropped on them twice this season already, demerits for a ugly win against Tulane and squeaking by Kentucky. Penn State has a pretty good quality win over Ohio State and then what? Maybe a decent win over Oregon State and then what? Michigan State perhaps could help the resume, but Illinois and Wisconsin fell apart and Michigan never showed up this year, still there are no demerits for squeaking out weak wins there. Florida might be the best team in the country right now, but they've got the most inexcusable loss, yet no one seems to remember that, so they're stuck behind Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, which both lost to Texas, though the Cowboys did it more impressively. Have a look for yourself at schedules, I put them up every week.

LSU? In the name of all that is holy, why? They've played two good teams and gotten blown out both times. Not only do they have no wins over teams currently ranked (Auburn was ranked at the time only because no one had any idea how truly awful they are), they have one win over a team with a winning record: they beat 5-3 South Carolina by a touchdown.

LSU's resume is comparable to Minnesota's at best - at least Minnesota was competitive in one of its losses. And Minnesota clearly isn't anywhere above the 23-25 range right now (and that only if you're in a good mood).

That's my point, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State and Auburn is not a strong schedule and their out of conference is even worse.
