Pa rolls past Ohio in Big 33 classic

For the third time in a row high school all-stars from Pennsylvania destroyed all-stars from Ohio 31-16 Saturday night.

Pennsylvania dominated Ohio in the 51st annual Big 33 Classic in Hershey, winning 31-16. And the Penn State recruits representing the Keystone State were an important part of the performance.

• Mark Wedderburn was recruited as a tight end at Penn State. But a lack of depth forced him to play D-end in this game. He dominated, with a handful of tackles and several batted passes. He also excelled at forcing the offensive action inside.

• Pete Massaro saw time at defensive tackle and end, and had a key first-quarter sack. He did a solid job keeping contain.

• Massive defensive tackle Brandon Ware started at the nose and helped completely shut down Ohio's inside running game.

• Center Matt Stankiewitch started and was the anchor of an offensive front that controlled the line of scrimmage.

• Walk-on kicker David Soldner was 1 of 2 on field goals and perfect on extra point attempts

I watched bits and pieces of it and it was quite the blowout, actually the game was very boring but you get that sometimes in All Star games. Other coverage can be found here, here, here, and here.

It's crazy to me that Wedderburn can play that well at a position he wasn't even recruited for. I didn't see any of the game but he sounds like one of the best DEs in both PA and Ohio.

I think Wedderburn and Michael Zordich were fine legacy gets for Penn State, I like everything I read about them.

Isn't Pa. pretty much playing the 'B' squad of Ohio All-Stars these last few years? It was my understanding that the top level kids are playing in the Ohio North-South (or something like that) game and skipping the Big 33.

Are they playing at the same time? If not I don't see why the Ohio all-stars couldn't play in both games.

the two previous years, the best from Ohio were playing in the North vs. South game. Last year, there were no kids going to Ohio State on the Ohio roster. But for some reason, this year the big bowl seems to be the Big 33. I saw at least a half dozen kids either going to OSU or Michigan on the roster this year.
