Wrestling Wreport

After beating Oklahoma State in their home gym and moving up to #1, the Penn State wrestling team has dropped like a plane with no wings.

This pretty much sums up PSU's season lately

The Nittany Lions, now ranked No. 7, traveled to Iowa, the new No. 1, Sunday to take on the Hawkeyes and got soundly pounded 27-13. Iowa won 7 of the dual's 10 bouts. If it wasn't bad enough that the team had to wrestle at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, they were also without the services of David Erwin, ranked 16th and Jake Strayer ranked 5th. The only good thing to come out of the meet was the still intact undefeated records of #4 Dan Vallimont and #2 Phil Davis. Vallimont managed to defeat #16 Ryan Morningstar of Iowa 6-2 and Davis pinned overmatched Chad Beatty with 3 seconds to go in the second period after locking up his patent cradle.

The rest is pretty much all bad news. Bubba Jenkins got pinned by Brent Metcalf of Iowa and Mark McKnight lost a tough 2-0 decision to Charlie Falck; both Iowa wrestlers were ranked 3rd. Dave Rella was the only other Penn State wrestler to win and that wouldn't have happened if Iowa's Mark Perry, the top-ranked wrestler at 165, would have wrestled. The team is reeling right now and need to get their heads on straight because they travel to #6 Ohio State on Friday and host #17 Indiana on Sunday at 1PM.

Totally off topic, but our own Anthoney Morelli played in the Shrine game. I've been searching everywhere for a box score to see how he played, only been able to find the AP story on ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=ncf&id=3204889

He gets one mention in the story:

"Walker intercepted a pass by Penn State's Anthony Morelli and returned it 22 yards in the second quarter."

Ahhh, memories....

Holy Shit! The shockwave of Geary Claxton's injury is having a hell of an impact on all PSU sports.
