There was a game last night?

Talor Battle for president.

If the impassioned speech by Darryl Clark or the gutsy nationally televised effort didn't say it, Talor Battle's basket certainly did.

The Penn State men's basketball team belongs in the NCAA tournament.

The sophomore Battle made the biggest shot of his collegiate career, a layup with .3 seconds remaining to lift Penn State to an improbable 64-63 win against No. 23-ranked Illinois in front of white-wearing frenzied fans at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Oh by the way Illini fans… Remember this?

2-0, suck on it pricks!

Dallas Cowboys get Chemotherapy

"The Cancer" has been removed from Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys have released controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens, sources told ESPN's Michael Smith late Wednesday.

Not only did Owens have relationship issues with quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten, but the receiver consistently criticized offensive coordinator Jason Garrett's play calling and his offensive schemes to the point that sources have said Garrett did not believe they could coexist.

Philly learned the hard way and so did Dallas, who's next? Actually let's have a little fun; instead of having a poll on who will be T.O.'s next team let's vote on who's the most unlikely team, shall we? Your choices are San Francisco, Philadelphia, Miami (Parcells), or Kansas City (former Dallas OC Todd Haley).

Who is T.O.'s LEAST likely new team?

More SEC fun from ESPN

Put your "way back" helmets on and remember back to August of last year when it was announced that ESPN had reached a 15-year (YIKES!!) agreement with the SEC for exclusive television rights to sporting events for the hugegantic sum of…

2 BILLION dollars!!!

Remember I told you this was a very very very bad thing for sports fans in general (ok, let's face it ESPN is already become a bad thing for sports fans but at least they used to show some objectivity). Well get ready because the spoon feeding is about to begin.

Alabama's annual spring game isn't just attracting huge crowds. Now the Crimson Tide's A-day game will have a national television audience. ESPN announced Tuesday that it will televise the game nationally on Saturday, April 18.

This is one of the most ill-conceived ideas out of all ill-conceived ideas; this gives bad ideas a bad name. Sure I'll watch the Blue/White game it's an excuse to tailgate ed.note- ok, it's an excuse to drink, no I really don't need an excuse but it makes me feel less of an alcoholic if others are drinking with me but if you are seriously considering watching another team's glorified scrimmage, one that isn't in your conference or on your schedule then you are:

A) Addicted to college football and need help; like real professional help

B) Bored out of your mind and are out of beer and all the stores are closed and all the bars are closed and those old prescription pain pills sitting in the back of your medicine cabinet look too scary for you anymore.

How many people outside of the state of Alabama are going to watch this thing, I mean really?? Come on, this is as transparent as Fox's "fair and unbalanced" approach to news; ESPN is plugging anything that slightly resembles the SEC. What's next a night out with Tim Tebow's aunt?

Announcer: This Wednesday see how Bingo is played with SEC speed… only on ESPN.

Wrestling Wreport: the Big Ten Championships edition

The Penn State Nittany Lions host the 2009 Big Ten Wrestling Championships starting this Saturday March the 7th. The pre-seeds are out for all ten weight classes and after the disastrous year Penn State has had during the dual meet season, they are actually represented quite well.

Wt. – Rank. Name
125 - #4. Brad Pataky, PSU
133 - #6. Jake Strayer, PSU
141- UR Frank Molinaro, PSU
149 - #2. Bubba Jenkins, PSU
157 – UR Tim Darling, PSU
165 - #6. Dan Villamont, PSU
174 - #3. Quentin Wright, PSU
184 – UR Jack Decker, PSU
197 – UR Clay Steadman, PSU
HWY UR - Tighe / Wade, PSU

Half the team is ranked with Jenkins coming in the highest ranked of any PSU wrestler. This season the NCAA has a new system of "qualifying" the number of spots or automatic bids each conference gets according to a rating system.

Qualifying tournaments were awarded spots at each weight based on data, ranging from winning percentage, RPI rating and a coaches ranking. Each wrestler that reached two of the following three criteria — .725 winning percentage, top 28 RPI or top 28 coaches ranking — received an NCAA tournament spot for his conference in his weight class.
Five Nittany Lions — sophomore 125-pounder Brad Pataky, senior 133-pounder Jake Strayer, freshman 141-pounder Frank Molinaro, junior 149-pounder Bubba Jenkins and freshman 174-pounder Quentin Wright — met at least two of three criteria at their respective weights.

The Big Ten easily received the most qualifying spots at 61 compared to the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association's 38.

As far as our hero's go the Big Ten received 7 spots at 125, 6 at 133, 5 at 149, 8 at 165 and 6 at 174. At 165, Dan Vallimont only needs to win twice to earn a NCAA tournament spot, easily the best chance for any Penn State wrestler. The Big Ten also received 7 spots at 141, if Frank Molinaro can wrestle up to his potential he could make an impact. In the end you want to finish as high as possible but winning enough in the Big Ten's and getting through to wrestle in the NCAA's is the goal.

With Dan Vallimont's up and down year it would not be a surprise if Penn State only gets Pataky, Strayer, Jenkins and Wright through although Vallimont and Darling or Molinaro could make some noise. Decker, Steadman and whoever wrestles heavyweight don't have a chance in my mind, getting one of those guys through would be a huge bonus.

Update: the championship finals can be seen live on the Big Ten Network starting at 2PM Sunday March 8th.
