Shock of the day: Troy Smith wins Heisman

It was a forgone conclusion but I would still like to congratulate Ohio State QB Troy Smith for winning the Heisman Trophy this weekend. You would be hard-pressed to find a better player in college football this year. I don’t like to link the Heisman with a team’s record, like so many pundits do, but in Troy’s case it’s quite valid. Smith was the engine in Ohio State’s Porsche-like offense that pretty much tore up the competition. The game that sealed it, in my mind, was the Michigan game in which Troy diced up a very solid Wolverine defense, completing 80% of his passes in the first two quarters to take a two score lead at halftime. His worst game was probably against Penn State and he still made a highlight reel play when the Buckeyes needed it.

From this point forward I will refer to him as the Magic Bullet, because I can’t think of a better description of Troy Smith then “a versatile magician that does any job in 10 seconds or less.”

Troy Smith = Magic Bullet
